SCULPTURE · Hiding Places · Cardboard
Cardboard is everywhere. It carries our necessities, our desires, and sometimes our dreams. For Lisbeth Derry, a cardboard box is never just a cardboard box. It is a material with memory. And sometimes it is allowed to become art before it becomes recycling. She is fascinated by creating beauty from a material that exists in abundance and is usually viewed as waste. In her hands, the used cardboard box is not the end of a journey, but the beginning of a new story.
In the series Once a Box, she turns recycled cardboard into sculptures that balance the monumental and the light.
